Meet our Leia (view Pedigree) - a beautiful and never tired Golden Retriever, that was named by our then 5 year old son, Mark, after the Princess Leia of Star Wars (as you can see, Mark is a big fan of George Lucas creative work). So, Leia's full name is Leia Organa Lee Aubin. She was born in 2006, and she will have her second litter in April-May of 2010. She will be receiving her hip/elbow/eye/heart OFA and CERF certifications this fall (2009). The results will be posted at the website.
Leia is an "American" Golden Retriever. For those who are not familiar with the terms, it means that her coat is classic golden. Leia's mother has a bit more gold in her coat, and the father is a gorgeous blonde - Abraham, who looks like a lion because of all that hair around his neck. He's tall and very protective of his family (dogs and people). Leia is a great family member, affectionate to children and other family members (including the cat). I personally have NEVER heard her growling or barking at anyone, except for several strangers, that appeared at the door or walked into the backyard. She is protective of the family, but not out of control, and when she gets to know you, she'll lick you to death and will make her way up to your lap (she still thinks she's a pup). Leia is an inside dog: she sleeps inside, and has plenty of time outside available to her. She loves digging holes, I assume that's "the nature of the beast". She's smart (sometimes too much), kind, loving, beautiful dog, and I hope her children will inherit that from her. She loves playing "fetch", or "go, get it" as we taught her. Comparing her to Persy (our Saint Bernard), she's in a bigger need of attention: she needs scratches, kisses, brushing, playing, sitting on your lap (don't be fooled - it doesn't work with us!), just being around family at all times. True princess, what can I say! Very tender and sensitive dog (read - "fuss budget" - she's very picky with her food.)
